Marco is checking MC and he will head back to Berkely when finished. Marco stopped by RC before leaving around 0730h. Ellie handled all animals on RC this am & did a super job. We finished checking all traps by 18th & returned to lab to blood new animals. Summary of result on RC: R. californicus: 20 (pm) 27 (am) # und. caught (new) 11 (2 new) 15 P. boylii = 8 (1 new) 16 (2 new) 22 N. fascipes = 3 6 (2 new) 9 Perognathus = 0 1 1 Microtus = 3 3 5 TOTAL 20 (2 new) 37 (4 new) 52 new We bled the 3 new animals and I returned them to their capture sites in good shape around noon. Ellie took a vaginal smear from the captive female. We then prepared a S. bachmani we found next to a trap at station 5, we last night while checking traps. It had one puncture hole with little blood visible beneath its left ear and the top back of the cranium had hemorrhaged tissue, but the skull appears intact. No idea what killed this. Perhaps it was attacked, escaped, but then died next to the trap (?). Prepared it as a study skin (Lot# 874). Today was sunny and warm (low 80's). We reset McCraft fence traps around 1700hrs, and all traps on grid RC from 1730to 1630h. 2215h - out checking traps on MC. It's cool (low 50's), calm, moon is full and overhead. Finished checking traps by 2340h and headed home May 28 0615h - out checking traps on MC. It's foggy, calm, low 50's this am. Finished checking all traps by 0745h and returned to take vaginal smear from #1135
