RIBBLE, D.D. 1986 Journal 62 Hastings Reservation, Moncay Co., Calif May 20 This afternoon was clear and hot! 94° on grid MC and at least 98° (cont) at the cabin. We took it easy most of the afternoon. Got 150 traps together from Bot-ones and numbered them. Reset DC drift fences around 1730h. From 1800 to 1900h I reset all the traps on MC while Marco got radio-locations on the collared animals (see Telemetry Data). 2245h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, low 60's. Moon is >4 full and setting in the west. Finished checking traps by 2320h. Marco finished up with some telemetry locations (see Telemetry data) May 21 0615h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, mid 50's. We picked up the folding Sherman as we checked traps and closed all of the non-folding Shermans. Started checking DC drift fences by 0730h and finished by 0815h. Summary of results on MC = P.californicus 20 (pm) 4 captures P. huei 4 " 5" 6 P. boyii 0 " 11" 15 N. fuscipes 1 " 3" (new) 4 TOTAL 15 " 23" 31 captures Fewest captures of the 5 nights of trapping - apparently the heat is decreasing activity. We went into town this am for groceries and took it easy in the afternoon in prep for telemetry tonight. Today was another scorcher - 98° at the weather station. We reset all drift fence traps from 1000 to 1400h. Marco set up things for telemetry (see Telemetry data). Marco took off for telemetry around 2100h.
