Stopped at Mark and Shorty's and took a vaginal smear from the captive female on my way back to lab. Summary of results on MC: P. californicus : (16(PM) 17(Am) # ind 5 captures 9 captures 10 P. huei 3 7 (new) 9 P. boydii 6 " (new) 18" (new) 19 N. fusipes 0 3" (new) 3 TOTAL 14" (new) 37 (3 new) 41 good results considering the weather. Took until 1400h to bleed new P. californicus , stuff, 2 mortalities, and expanding smears. Today was partly cloudy, breezy, and cool (low 60's). From 1630 to 1700h I reset RC drift fences and released the new P. californicus in good shape! It escaped up slope past the end of the drift fence). Reset all MC traps from 1715 to 1930h. 2220h - out checking traps on MC. It's overcast, calm, low 50's. Finished checking traps by 2320h and headed home for some sleep... May 18 0615h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, mid 40's. About 20 stations on the grid had been traps turned over on rows 5, 6, & 7. Urine evident on a few, so presumably it's a damn Uropion again. I have to take care of this somehow.... Returned to Finished checking traps by 090h, stopped to take a smear from # 1135, and returned to lab to bleed 3 new animals.
