ZIBBLE, D.O. 1989 JOURNAL 52 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. April 29. 0300h - exit [illegible] on RC for telemetry. The moon is 3/4 full, 2 o'clock in west, and bright. Temp ~ upper 40's. Telemetry was bouncy this am (see telemetry data). Started checking traps (??) on RC drift fences around 0600h. Finished up and headed home by 0700h. Karen checked MC drift fences this am. Marco and I packed up and left for Besseley by 0900h. Karen will check drift fence traps tomorrow am and leave traps shut, blocking passageways (see her journal) May 2 Arrived back at Hastings this afternoon at 1730h. Shites are mostly clear (a few clouds) and warm (upper 70's). Had to hustle to get all traps set: MC drift fence traps from 1800 to 1830 and RC grid traps and drift fence traps from 1840 to 2000h. Finished just as it was getting dark. The moon is practically full (last night was peak) and rises about 2100h. No traps checked this PM. May 3. 0103h - out checking traps on MC drift fences. It's clear and cool (low 50's). Started checking traps on RC by 0715h. A lot of animals this am! Didn't finish checking traps until 1030h. Want to check on captive animals & take a vaginal smear (so notes on individual animals) Returned to lab to blood new animal and disconnect radio-collars. Summary of results on RC: P. californicus 14 captures (new) P. boylii : 29 " (9 new) N. fascipes : 5 " (5 new) Perognathus : 3 " Microtus : 2 " (new) P. maniculatus : 4 " (2 new) B. megaleotis : 2 " (1 new) TOTAL : 59 " (19 new) Of total animals captured this am with drift fence animals.
