RIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal 51 Nastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. April 27 We successfully took a vaginal smear from #1135 and Karen introduced these animals to the enclosure late this am. Today was partly cloudy and cooler (low 70s) than yesterday. 1000h to 1030h From 1630h to 1700 we reset RC drift fence traps and Marco set 8 traps around Station 9,19 (lumber to catch #1135). - From 1640h to 1715h we reset all traps on GRID W2. April 28 0305h - out doing telemetry or RC. It's plain west, moon is 3/4 full and setting, upper 40s. 0610h- began to check RC drift fence traps - it's clear (still a few clouds in west) and cool (upper 40s). 0730h - moved down to gate to meet Marco and Karen Finished checking and picking up all traps on W2 by 0915h and returned to lab to bleed Zuni animals. Summary of results on W2: P. californicus : 12 captures (3 new) P. truei : 14 " 6 P. boylii : 2 " Perognathus : 3 ' N. ruscipes : 10 " (3new), mortality TOTAL : 41 captures (5new) I released the new animals from W2 around 1100h in good shape and returned to put traps up - Karen took another successful vaginal smear from our capture animal (#1135). This afternoon was partly cloudy to mostly cloudy (another storm moving in) and cool (upper 60s). We reset RC drift fence traps from 1700h to 1800hrs, while Marco set up the telemetry for recording of #1979 with the long cable and paddle. Hopefully, we will be able to get a signal from #1955. Karen reset MC drift fence traps around the same time - 200th- Marco left for one finally night of telemetry.
