BIBBLE, D.O. 1988 Journal Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Jan. 7. Arrived back down this afternoon around 1400hrs after a wonderful Christmas break! It snowed 5 inches down here while I was away, causing many branch falls. The high grasses and reeds along the creek bottoms are also smashed down. I set traps on grid RC from 1430 to 1630 hrs. A Bay tree south of station F, 12 has fallen since it was last here. Also, there are many Buckeyes on the ground, several which had rodent gnaw marks. Scott Edwards and Francis Villablanca met up with me just as I finished up. Francis will be around until tomorrow and Scott until the 10th. 2140hrs - out checking traps. It's overcast, calm, very slight fog. Finished checking traps by 2340 hrs - great results this evening. Jan 8. 0720hrs - out checking traps on RC. It's overcast, calm, upper 40's. Finished checking traps by 0930 and returned to lab with 3 animals to blood. Note that I caught a F. californicus (#1953) and M. californicus (#0120). Today was overcast all day, so perhaps that's why the F. californicus was out today.
