BIBBLE, D.O. 1988 43 Hastings Reservation Monterey Co., Calif. April 15(cont) finished setting traps it was foggy and lightly drizzling. it remained that way until I went to bed. Mel arrived tonight April 16 0645h - out checking traps on MC. It's cool, foggy, and wet! Since Mel and I are meeting her parents in Monterey this am, I didn't have time to mark the salamanders - I just transferred them across the fence. I finished checking all traps by 0845h. (#1228) Returned to the lab with a new P. californicus that I put in a plastic holding cage. 1000h - returned from Monterey and filed #1228 and released him in good shape about 1630h. This afternoon was overcast, misty, and cool - Since the Staffords are here we traps were set, but I did leave the pitfall cams open. April 17 The skies were clear (at last!) this am, but clouds moved in by 1000h and the rest of the day was partly cloudy to overcast. We (Mel, Stafford) took a bike ride this am and I checked all pit falls, releasing all (~5) salamanders unmarked - On our hike we found some very nice Felis concolor prints on the Martin Rd ~100m west of the cutoff rd to Mark and Shorty's, and on the road to Mark and Shorty's. Big annual, P. Kelly measured them at 80 x 90mm. The Staffords left around 1400h and Mel around 1700h - nice rest. From 1700 to 16:30 I reset MC drift fence traps and set all traps on our grid. I'm expecting good results soon. The vegetation is probably as full as it gets. At about 12:00 RC drift fence traps from 1845 to 1915h.
