April 13 (Sat). 1800h - it started to rain lightly and I returned to the cabin before setting MC drift fence traps from 1845 to 1715h. 2210h - out checking traps on RC - it's over cast, calm, dark, mid 50s. Results (P. californicus only): St # Spo N 7,9 1223 P. californicus 40.5 ♂ M, scrotal. No sign of powder. N 4,13 1224 " " 22.5 ♀ Imm, nullip. No sign of any powder. Escaped to south of station L9,17 1955 " " 41 ♂ M, scrotal. About to lose ear tag. T.E #0200 I bled the 2 new animals at the truck and released them at their capture sites - returned to the lab by 2310h to spin down blood April 14 0645h - out checking traps on MC drift fences. It's over cast and raining lightly. Shortly after I started it began raining hard! Starting checking traps on RC by 0730h - still raining. Results on GRID RC traps (P. californicus only): St # New 7,9 1227 P. californicus 24 ♂ Imm, TWO Trap #14 Definite ORANGE neo-juv molt powder in ears. Purple powder ?? in ears. New 5,12 1220 P. californicus 23.5g ♂ Imm, TWO #67 5,9 1123 " ♀ M, lactating. 5,14 1218 " ♀ Imm. L9,14 1965? PROB dog 1944 ♂ M scrotal. Patch on back 1139? 1944< (Mortality low) 5,17 1955 To capture I finished checking traps by 0930h and returned to the lab to blood them - it just raining about now. There were alot (~25 to 30) salamanders in pit falls this am. Particularly abundant new Eusatia (~10) on grid MC. One can on RC had 10 Taricha & 2 Eusatia. Unfortunately due to the conditions I opted to not mark them and I simply dumped them onto the opposite side of the fence. I was most concerned about getting to all the rodents before they got wet and died. I was fortunate and didn't loose any animals this am. Stanbech said it snowed on Claw's Ridge.
