RUSSELL, D.O 1989 Journal 42 Nestings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif April 7 (cont) from #040, changed the radio on #1225. Proceeded to check traps on MC (just stopped and repaired radio returned from #040) Radio-located April 8 0100h - radio-located #040 & #1400 at station 9,17 on GRID MC. Returned to GRID RC and David got good radio-locations on #1225-070130 - good set up for the fiber optics! Finally returned home at 0300h. 0645h - after a useful 3hrs of sleep, we went to RC to check traps first. No animals of interest caught, but #1225-070130 are still in a good location (see app acct). Proceeded to check traps on MC (0800h) and radio-located #1212 & #020. We rounded up Mark Starback to help us drill into the nest for fiber-optics, and began working at 0930h. We failed until [illegible] 1700h with some success ---- see app acct! Before sunset we got radio-locations of the MC located animals. Needless to say, we were totally exhausted after the past few days (with only 3hrs of sleep), plus the fiber optics results were not as good as we hoped; so, we decided to not set any traps tonight and sleep late tomorrow! April 9 David and I spent most of the morning and early pm hashing over the fascinating world of Psalifornicus. In the afternoon we drove up the Arnold to Wainine Chapparal. [illegible] Today was warm (low 70s? a bit cooler) and clear. Found a #13ording P# in the Arnold cabin. From 18-1930h we set out and baited all traps on GRID MC to begin a 5-day trapping session. Set all MC drift fence traps as well.
