Bibble, D.O. 1989 Journal 1 Hastings Reservation, Monkey Co., Calif Jan 4 Arrived at Hastings this PM around 1430h. It's clear, mid-60s. There is still snow on Lewis Ridge, Arnold Hill, and even some on the east ridge behind Hastings. Apparently Hastings received a good snow during Christmas (2 inches around lab). Green up is continuing - vegetation looks good. The snow did result in a lot of snag and branch fall. (M=56, lOW=26 on MC max/min thermometer) Set and baited all trap stations on GRID MC. Added stations at 7,4; 8,4; 9,4; 10,4 - and 11,5 to assure capture of all breeding P.californicus (see grid data Dec.18) Set all MC drift fence traps. Finished by 0515h - not enough daylight left to set RC drift fence traps. 2115h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, upper 40s, no moon. Good start this PM! Finished by 2230h. Jan 5 0700h - out checking traps on MC. It's cloudy, upper 40s, and raining lightly off and on. The rain continued - hard at times. Due to conditions I didn't weigh all animals. Finished by 0830h and returned to lab to blood 2 new animals (and dry out...)
