BUTLER, DO 1984 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. April 5 (cont) Today was another hot one, felt like it was in the 90s! Must has to stop! Tomorrow I pick up Gutierrez, so tonight and tomorrow morning I hope to put on some radio-collars. From 1730-1815h I reset RC drift fences (including the east fence) and traps at the west of the grid. Trying to catch QQ20-0381137; QQ1183-038040. By 1900h I reset MC drift fence traps. Picked up the transect traps at the east end and added them to traps to the cluster west of the west fence (total of 9 stations, 18 traps) which I baited with peanut butter. Trying to catch QQ1381-0380200. Clear, calm, low 60s. 2015h-out checking traps on MC west off. No PC captured. Proceeded to check traps on RC (4/3 2030h). Caught QQ1183 (see spacet) and radio-collared! Returned home by 2330h. Clear, calm, low 60s. April 6 0640h-out checking traps on MC drift fences. Finally caught QQ1381, but she is still pregnant (see spacet). Started checking traps on RC by 0715h. Caught 1381's mate, 040 and radio-collared him (see spacet) Finished checking all traps by 0845h. Today was another fucking hot one, highs in upper 90s. I don't know how long this will last, but it sucks!! I went into town (Monterey) today to pick up David Gutierrez. We'll be at Hastings until the 10th to hopefully film paternal care with fiber optics- exciting. We arrived back at Hastings around 1700h and immediately went to GRID RC. Could not pickup signal from QQ1183 so we set most of RC east drift fence traps and a cluster of 6 traps ~15m east of E-16. Also set most of the traps in the west side of the grid for PC #5 1225, 0130, 1257, and 020.
