IL38E,D.O. 1989 Journal 29 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif March 13 (cont) @ 2115h-out checking traps on MC. It's overcast, upper 40s- Moon is 1/2 full and visible at times. Better results tonight - Finished by 2230h. March 14 0620h-out checking traps on MC. Clean and cold (upper 30s) this am. Good results this am. Finished by 0800h. Spent the rest of the am in town getting supplies. Summary of MC results-P.californicus 5 10 11 P. boylii 9 14 15 P. tenuis 16 [illegible] Perognathus 2 2 3 TOTAL 22 34 37 See Captive animal sheets for summary of work done. Today was 16045 sunny and clean (high 60s). Reset MC traps from 15- [illegible]h. Added traps at station 11,5; and spent time fixing up holes under the drift fence - thanks to cable! Set DC drift fence traps from 1645-1745h. Put 14 folding thermons on the west fence and 10 on the east. I'll go out early in the am for dyadic encounters, so no trap check tonight. Moon is 3/4 full tonight. March 15 0420h-out checking traps on MC. Clean, upper 30s, no moon. Checked traps only for P.e. then conducted 2 dyadic encounters (see spp sheets). Went back and checked all traps beginning at 0615h. Note that 2 P.e were captured just prior to sunrise (0620) and after I first checked traps. Started checking DC drift fence traps by 0745h and finished by 0830h. Summary of MC results: Peromyscus [illegible] P.boylii 14 P.tenuis 7 Perognathus 1 M.hudsonicus 2 TOTAL 34 caps DC west: 30 traps, 2 closed, 7/28 = 0.25 % success DC east: 24 traps, 2 closed, 3/22 = 0.14 % success.
