RUBBLD.O 1984 Journal 24 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Feb 28 (cont.) Clouds finally burned off after moon, but it remained cooler than the previous days (low10°). Reset all WR traps from 11-1700h. Forgot to bring out new PC # 1498 to release - have to do it tomorrow am. Reset RC's MC drift fence traps by 1800h. Set traps at sts 4,13; 5,13; and 5,12 to try and catch offspring of F♀1364 - will check these traps tonight. Will not going to conduct capture encounters tomorrow, but hopefully the morning after. 2130h-out checking traps on RC. Clear, cold (mid 30's), no moon. P.californicus only: 4,13-1364 F M post-lact, perineal (black & blue color?), 38g. Dusted Golden Brown. 5,13-030 F M, perineal, bloody discharge, #135g. Dusted Blue-Green. 5,12-144 Ø M, scrotal - (didn't weigh). Finished by 2145h March 1 0630h-out checking traps on MC. Cloudy (fog) in the west, upper 30's. Results on RC grid traps (P.californicus only) 5,12-1269 Ø M scrotal. 5,13 - 1/55 Ø M scrotal. Brown visible in ears. Post- 5,13 - 1364 F lactating. RECAP. 4,13 - Cat # 947, S.hewbudgei, log. ØM?, Mortality Started checking traps on WR by 0800h. Did seem to catch many P.californicus. Did release new PC while checking traps. Finished by 0930h and returned to lab to prepare some mortality. Summary of results on WR - P.californicus - 5 captures 14 traps closed ~11% P. huei - 21 " W. basipes - 10 " P. bergii - 1 " Pseudaphis 4 " TOTAL 41 captures Note that trap success on RC west fence was 71% - need to add traps
