Riddle, DO 1984 Journal 1/8 Hasting Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Feb 14 Note that after checking traps I recognized 4 Pe; thus, there must be activity just prior to sunrise. After checking traps on MC I chased 3 cows off of Hastings to the east of the upper barn- fence in disrepair in places. While I was then I moved around in the Zaragozas south of Madron Canyon. Not that much good habitat, plus being off Hastings, cable (s'chain remains) everywhere. Probably not that good for trapping. The fog lifted before noon and skies were mostly cloudy all day. Spent the afternoon cleaning traps- Reset DC traps from 1630-1730h, and MC drift fences by 1800h- will be going out early in am, again; so no trap check tonight Feb 20. 0440h- out on DC to check traps and conduct daytime encounter. Clear, cool (low 30s), moon is full-bright!! Procedure followed as same as yesterday am - see app acct. Checked all traps starting at 0700h and then MC drift fence traps at 0830h. Summary of results on DC- P. Californicus: 12 captures {5/20 = 25% success end fence {7,1/24 = 29% " west fence P. boylii : 19 " W. fusipes : 6 " Perognathus : 2 " 12 megalotis : 1 " S. townsendsi : 1 mortality Total 41 captures Returned to the lab- to prepare mortalities - today was sunny and warm (low 70s). Spent the afternoon mending MC drift fence, fixing capture cage, and fixing the behavioral arena. Noticed today the Buckeyes are not budding. If we don't get more rain it's going to be a long summer for them! Robertson Creek is very low (probably due to tree uptake & lack of rain).
