BIBLIO.D.O. 1989 Journal 16 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif Feb 16 Arrived back at Hastings today around 1400h. Clear and cool's. Some snow is still visible on Cloud ridge. The ground is very moist, grasses still greening up - Set and baited all traps on GP to RC & RC drift fence traps from 1530-1730h. The snow has really washed down all the herbaceous vegetation along Robertson Creek. Set MC drift fence traps by 1800h, just prior to darkness. Hyla regilla are calling - first clue noticed them in a while. Moon (15% full, waxing) rose around 1800h - 2130h - out checking traps on RC. It's mostly clear, low 40's, moon is bright!! (15% full). Caught a S-backmani tonight. Not bad results considering moon. Finished by 2230h. Feb 17 0700h - out checking traps on MC. It's clear, calm, low 40's. Started checking traps on RC by 0730h. Returned to lab to weigh captive animals by 0930h. Summary of Results - P.californicus (6 10 11 drift fence: west 3/23 = 13% } P.boylei (6 14 16 East 4/17 = 24% (20 trapstotal) N. roseipes 4 5 9 S.backmani 1 0 1 TOTAL 17 29 37 The moon appears to be having an obvious effect on early captures. Spent most of today working on a dyadic encounter arena. Today was sunny and warm (upper 60's), hazy in late afternoon. Reset all RC traps from 1545-1645h, and MC drift fence traps by 1700h. 2120h - out checking traps on RC. It's mostly clear and calm, low 40's. Conducted a dyadic encounter with the new arena (see spread) Finished by 2300h this evening
