RIBBLE, D.O. 1984 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Jan 28 scattered 8 mistral traps (4 in Kelly boxes) across the gul for Weetoma. Reset DC & MC drift fence traps by 1700h. -No traps to check tonight! Jan 29 0700h - out checking traps on WC drift fences. Few scattered clouds, cold. Started checking traps on DC drift fences by 0730h. 44% trap success on both drift fences. Started checking traps on WR by 0830h. Good results this am - only 12 (~10%) traps closed with no animal. Conducted 3 dyadic encounters this am - see app sect. Returned to lab by 1030h to collect tissues from ~2 new Pc from WR. Summary of results on WR - P.californicus - 9 captures (2new) P.tuei - 11 " N.fusipes - 5 " Perognathus - 1 " P.bongii - 1 " TOTAL - 27 captures (2new) Spent middle hrs of the day working on the computer. Reset WR traps from 15-1600h. Released the new Pc in good condition while checking traps. Temps on WR - low 37, hi 58°F. Reset DC & MC drift fence traps by 1700h. Jan 30 0700h - out checking traps on WC drift fences. Clear, calm, low 40s Started checking traps on DC drift fence by 0730h - 38% success on west fence and 56% on east fence. Should add traps to east fence. Started on WR by 0830h. Conducted 1 dyadic encounter (see app sect). Finished by 1000h. Summary of results on WR: P.californicus - 7 captures Also - 9 traps closed with no animal (7%) P.tuei - 15 " (1new) N.fusipes - 7 " Perognathus - 2 " P.bongii - 1 " TOTAL - 32 captures caught a pregnant 2(#0340). sign of breeding ?!!
