RUBBER D.O. 1989 Journal 102 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., California Oct 5 Arrived at Hastings this afternoon around 1600h under clear skies, temp in low 60's. All the oaks still have their leaves, the buckeyes have lost theirs, poison oak still have some red leaves, and some grasses and forbs have begun growing. Bay trees have started dropping their seeds - looks like a good crop. Set traps and baited traps on all 4210 RC traps from 1630-1730h. Note I didn't set any Montana traps. Set and baited all WZ traps from 1745 to 1900h. Finished just before dark, so I didn't have time to set any Montana traps. 2115h - out checking traps on RC with Donna, the new woodpecker field assistant. Clear, low 60's, moon is ~1/4 full and has set just before we started. Excellent results this PM. See Really apparent for tissue collection family procedure. Finished by 2300h. Oct 6 0700h - out checking traps on WZ - it's clear, low 50's. Good results with not many (~10) traps closed by Westoma. Started checking traps on 4210 RC by 0900h. Again, good results. Finished by 1100h and returned to lab to prepare 3 mortalities.
