RUBBLE DO 1989 Journal 41 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif July 14 In a word, it was a BITCH setting those! Uphill, and lots of Pison oak and shrubs to cut through. We didn't finish setting traps until close to 2000h. We were so exhausted and because it was getting dark, we didn't set any of the drift fence traps. July 15 0630h - out checking traps on WR dispersal transects with Megan Lynn (she arrived last night). Foggy, mid 50s this am. Only caught 3 tagged PC, all close to the grid. Did catch quite a few new PC which we ear-tagged and collected tail tips. Finished after 1000h and returned to lab to process tails and take vaginal smears. Today was warm (upper 80's) and breezy. This afternoon we worked on location & size of trees on GRID MC. Reset WR dispersal traplines from 1630-1800h. I used the "South Arrow" and Julie and Megan 10set "West Arrow". All stations were shifted 10m away from grid. Reset MC and PC drift fence traps by 1900h. Also set traps for F/3801 at woodpile (see telemetry data) July 16 0600h - out checking traps on MC. Clear, low 50's. Tagged new (C) juvenile at woodpile (#1758 llg, F, hum) and removed the radio-collar from F/3801 (see telemetry data). Proceeded to check and pickup dispersal traplines on WR. Finished after 1000h and returned to lab to take vaginal smears and collect tissues from 1758. Julie and Megan returned her in good shape by 1100h. I took off for Berkeley today, will be back waaaaita - Julie will take the next next 24h off.. July 17 Arrived back by 1500h this afternoon. We set and baited all traps on GRID PC from 17-1830h, and MC drift fence traps by 1900h. Set traps again at the upper woodpile for catchings of F/3801.
