RIBBLE, D.D 1989 Snowcat 21 Tasting Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. July 6 Julie and I arrived back at Tasting today around 1700h. It's hotter than hell!! 104F at the mailboxes today. From 18-1930h we set and baited RC drift fence traps (no extra traps set, just non-folding traps). Hey! We set traps on GRID WR for ? 1549 which still has a radio-collar - set 10 traps between 2.1 and 1.14. Set and baited all MC drift fence traps by 1930h. No traps to check tonight. July 7 0600h - out checking traps on MC. Cool, upper 70s. Started checking RC by 0640h and GRID WR2 traps by 0730h. Results on WR2 = P. californicus 1549 39g ?,M, Imp, part St 1,-4 Removed collar 1553 36.5g ??,M, scrotal St 1,-4 Returned to the lab to take vaginal smears and clean cages- rest of the morning. Spent this hot afternoon (another 100+ day) at Arroyo Seco swimming .... Reset RC drift fence traps and several RC grid stations (for ?'s 1364 and 030) from 18-1900h. Reset MC drift fence traps by 1930h. July 8 0600h - out checking traps on MC. Few scattered clouds, mid 70s. Started checking traps on RC by 0640. Results on RC grid traps (P. californicus only): 5/15 1587 29g ? SAD up, null 5/15 030 45g ? flat, ped, papous. Dustied blue-green 6/15 1582 28g ??? SAD, TWD 5/14 0400 41g ?? Mature, scrotal. 5/12 1304 39g ? Mature, up, post-lact. Dustied BROWN Finished by 0800h and returned to lab to take vaginal smears. Returned to field and spent the rest of the afternoon halting movements on GRID RC.
