1988, D.O 1989 Journal 621 Hastings Reservation, Moulery Co., Calif May 17 Low clouds covered in around sunset. (cont.) 2210h - out checking traps on grid RC. Thin cloud cover, upper 50%. Moon is >3/4 full and visible through clouds - very bright. About same results as previous nights. Finished by 2315h. May 18 0615- out checking traps on MC. Clean (clouds in west), low 50's. Done new N.bucephalus on MC west drift fence. Started checking RC traps by 0700h. Today I began collecting ~2cm of tail-tip from P.boefii on the grid as well as drift fences - want to try out finger-printing to see if Pb is in fact polygamous. Collected total of 23 this am. Finished checking all traps by 0920h and bled new Pb (#1586) at truck and released him back at his capture point in good shape by 0945h. Returned to lab to process blood & Pb tails. Summary of results on RC - P.californicus P.boefii N.bucephalus Perognathus N.cicturus 17(Pm) 18(2am) #ud 8 15 15 11 8 15 8 4(new) 12 0 2 2 1 1 2 Total 28 - 30 - 46 Almost noon by the time I finished. Today was like yesterday, upper 70's. This afternoon before resetting traps I cut all the vegetation next to the drift fences with the weed-eater - Alot of work and I'm sure my allergies will love it! Reset all RC traps from 1730- 1930h and MC drift fence traps by 1900h. I'm not going out to check traps tonight so I can go out early am to check for powder or animals captured only in air. May 19 0500h - out checking traps on RC. Clean, no moon, low 40's (cold). Finished checking RC traps by 0800h and attempted to collect tissue from new Pb, but the microtome wasn't working due to cold temp.
