RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 JOURNAL 44 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co. Calif. Oct 17 0800hrs - out checking traps on RC-1. Clear, calm this am. didn't catch #1079♀, but I picked up her signal in the fallen live oak east of station 7,16. Caught #1440♂ at 5,16. No obvious powder. Caught ♀ #1020 at 6,11 and removed the radio-collar. Also catched #835♀ at that station. Got radio-signal from #1079 in big fallen oak to the east of 7,16. Took the rest of the day off for Melanie's BDAY. Oct 18 ☒ 1600hrs - Need to find another area to set a grid for P. californicus, so for the next 3 nights I will set traps in West Ravine, west of the road up to the knoll. I tagged her in 1986 and designated it Transect XIII, so I will use that again. I set out 20 trap stations up the ravine, with 2 traps per station, using traps No. 341-360, then 141-160. The habitat is similar to Madrow Canyon (dense canopy of Live Oaks, Buckeyes, Bay trees, few Sycamores) but with much more Poison Oak. Parts of the Ravine are quite steep. Reset traps on RC-1 drift lines and traps on RC-1 only for #1079♀. Reset MC-1 drift lines around 1730hrs. Oct 19 0650 - out on MC-1 checking drift lines. It's clear, calm, upper 60's, moon is <1/4 and about 10:30 10:30 0'clock in the sky. 0740 - checking RC-1. A lot of animals on drift lines, but no luck catching #1079 on the grid.
