RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 JOURNAL 40 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Oct. 8(cmnt). Spent the morning working on the drift fence east of MC-1. Installed a screen between the fence and the dry stream bed. It's only ~20cm of screen, so if the stream moves up much it will have to be adjusted. Before leaving, I closed all traps on MC-1 drift lines and opened up the back of the traps. After lunch I went to RC-1 to do some work. First, I went in on #835's nest and she was there with the young. Wanted to make sure it was #835 on the nest. Next, I looked inside a stump that #1079 was seen going in. I carved out the passage hole to look in, and no nest was found. Cut a trail to expand the west drift fence of RC-1 to the south. Will require an additional 35 ft (~11m) of fencing. This will give 2 more stations on this line. I'll set all traps on RC-1 from 1630 to 1730 hrs. Oct. 9 0520 hrs - cut checking traps on RC-1. Moon is less than full, but very bright. Temp up to 18° F. Clear. Relicked #1079 with RED at station 5,14. Relicked #835 with GREEN at 6,10. Finished checking traps at 0730 hrs. Best results to date on this grid. The fog rolled in about the time the sun came up. *Caught #1481 with Rod Powder on ears, eyes, mouth, limbs, tail. Presumably then this is an offspring of #1079. Returned him to lab to collect tissues Summary of trap results: * P.
