Oct 5 (cold) 7:20 hrs - out checking traps on RC-1. Moon is full, temp in low 60's.
2:30 hrs - bled # 835 at station 6, 10 and redusted her with GREEN POWDER. She really went down deep and it took over 30 min before I released her. She seemed in okay shape. 2:33 hrs - stopped to check # 835's old nest for see powder and saw some fresh green at the 2nd nest site in the Mabrow (see previous species accounts). I pulled the piece of bark from the opening and heard a squeak! Inside were 3 pups. Fantastic! I pulled all 3 of them out at once with my hand. They were tiny, eyes closed, tightly hunched on their backs and heads. Their ears not too very completely developed, so there was no way for me to mark them (nor did I seem cutting those cuties). Each one was covered in green powder.
I measured one at 5.2g, approx. 165mm total length. I only measured the one because I wanted to get them back in the nest ASAP. All 3 were approx same size; no apparent runts. I attempted to sew them and came up with 107's & 29's. I put them back in their nest and put the bark back in place. As I left, they were squeaking loudly. Finished checking all traps by 2:55 hrs.
Oct. 6 0645 - out checking traps. Clean's calm. Nothing on MC-1 drift lines
On RC-1, stopped to collect tissues from 1979 ♀ Redusted her RED. Caught # 1020 at 6, 11 (mewed w/ GREEN POWDER (ears, face, limbs, paws, ventr)). Summary of results on RC-1: P californicus : 4 captures
P boylii : 3 captures (2 new)
Perognathus : 7 captures (1 new)
R. megacotis : "
N. fascipes : 4 captures (1 new)
TOTAL : 19 captures
Referenced to lab to spin blend. From 1100 to 1:50 hrs I patched a small rip in Hedcut fence east of MC-1, and then picked up all of the folding Sherman traps. From 1200 to 1830 hrs I reset all traps on RC-1, clearing the paths along the way with a machete. Reset MC-1 drift fences, finished around 18:30 hrs.
