RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 35 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Montery Co., Calif Oct 2 (Sun) Returned to lab to process tissues of # 1943. I had a hard time with this one - while it was screaming blood dried over its eyes binding its eyelids. I was able to get the lids apart and kept her in a holding cage all of forenoon to keep an eye on it. Late afternoon M. Stanback helped me finish up the drift fence west of RC-1. We used ~60 ft. more flashing. The stations ended at W-10 (not W-11 as estimated). After putting finishing touches on the fence by myself, I set the live traps on both west & east drift fences of RC-1 between 1530 and 1630. At 1700 hrs I released # 1943 at station 11,110 on MC-1, and proceeded to reset all traps on MC-1. Finished 1800 hrs. Weather today was as yesterday: warm (hi 80's), clear. Oct 3 0700 hrs - out checking traps on MC-1. Clear and calm. Finished checking traps on MC-1 at 0830 hrs. Finished checking RC-1 drift fences at 0930. Returned to lab to stuff sorey & collect tissues from # 1015. Summary of trap results on MC-1: P. californicus : 1 capture P. boylii : 5 captures (1 new) P. tuncii : 3 captures Perognathus : 10 captures (new) Neotoma : 4 captures E. megalotis : 1 new animal Total : 23 captures Summary of results on RC-1 drift lines: P. californicus : 2 captures P. boylii : 1 " (1 new) Perognathus : 3 " (2 new) E. megalotis : 1 new capture S. fuscocinigi : trap mortality Total : 8 captures. Spent the afternoon working in the cabin.
