Summary of trap results (including drift fence): P. californicus: 4 captures (3 new) P. boylii: 2 captures P. truei: 3 " (1 new) Perognathus: 7 " (1 new) Neotoma: 2 " Total: 18 captures Finished processing tissues around 1200hrs and released the 4 animals at their point of capture. In the afternoon I filled in the gap between the fence and Robertson Creek on the west drift fence. I numbered what is finished and estimate this fence will go up to W-11. I numbered the east fence E-1 through E-10. I then transferred 10 non-folding Shermans from grid RC-1 to the east fence and 14 to the west fence (2 extra to be placed at W-4 on south side of creek). Found the missing radio-collar on ground in front of nest. Looks like nest hole was cleaned out by something (?). The grid will require 5 folding Sherman traps to complete it. Total of 58 stations (6 non-folding; 5 folding) on grid, 71 stations including the drift fence. Returned to RC-1 and reset all traps from 1730 to 1630hrs. Today was a bit cooler (upper 60s) Oct. 2 0415-out checking traps. Clear, calm, cooler than yesterday. Finished checking traps by 0900hrs. Note that on the drift fences 3 animals were caught which went around the end of the fence (P. truei # 0440, Perognathus # 0220) and another which obviously wanted on the other side (P. boylii # 03020). Also, 3 animals were recaptured (P. californicus #1940, P. boylii # 02010 - which made it around the fence). Summary of morning results across all fences: P. californicus: 3 captures (1 new) P. boylii: 5 captures (2 new) P. truei: 2 captures Perognathus: 8 " (3 new) Neotoma: 4 " (1 new) S. trawbudgei: 1 " (1 new) Total 23 Captures
