RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 32 Hastings Reservation Monterey Co., Calif. Aug 14 We spent the morning on the fence east of RC-1, finishing (Cont') it by lunch. In the afternoon we used up the remaining fence material on the fence west of RC-1. I need at least 50 more feet, and preferably 80 feet. We did not have time to put hardware cloth at the stream on this grid. These things will have to be finished when I return in late September. 1830hrs - set out 20 traps at the 1st & 2nd crossings (attempting to catch P. californicus for tissues). Reset traps on trip MC-1 from 1400 to 1430 hrs. Aug 15. 0730 - cool, overcast this morning. Summary of Results: P. californicus : 2 captures P. boylii : ? captures (new) P. truei : 7 " Perognathus : 7 " Sorex t. : 1 " N. fusipes : 5 captures (used) TOTAL : 31 Captures. At the 1st & 2nd crossing trapline we caught #19020? P. californicus (animal previously used in behavior - powdertails) (Cat# 485) Took this back to Berkeley. Packed up everything & headed back to Bezerkeley by 1430 hrs. Sept 29 Finally back to Hastings after getting married and honeymooning in Peru. Wonderful trip and a nice break! Arrived around 1400hrs. Clear, slight haze and hot (mid-90s!). Everything looks dry. The oaks have dropped a good acorn crop and some Acorn woodpeckers (w. stanback) and Neotoma (R.Kelly) are breeding. Spent the afternoon & evening cleaning up the cabin. No traps set tonight.
