RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 31 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Aug 12 0700 - C. Schneider & I are checking traps while Marco begins working on the drift fence. It's cool (lots) and thick fog this morning. Summary of Results: P. californicus: 1 capture P. boylii : 5 " P. truei : 5 " Perognathus : 6 " (3 new) Neotoma : 2 " Total : 19 captures. We spent the rest of the day working hard (!) on the drift fence. We finished the fence east of MC-1; it took ~[illegible] feet of drift fence material (actual distance is less due to overlap, etc). It doesn't look as "clean" as I had imagined, but will certainly suffice. We also cleared the path for the fence to the west and put up ~ 70 ft of fence before setting traps between 1830 and 1900 hrs. Aug 13 0700 - checking traps on MC-1. Weather same as yesterday morning. Summary of Results: P. boylii - 10 captures (2 new) P. truei - 5 captures Perognathus - 7 " N. fuscipes - 6 " (1 new) 28 captures By 1200 we finished the drift fence west of MC-1. It took ~ 210 feet of material. Chris Schneider took off for Berkeley after lunch. In the afternoon Marco & I finished off the fence west of MC-1. We reset traps around 1500 hrs. We spent the remaining afternoon clearing the vegetation for the drift fence east of RC-1. Bill Lidicker arrived around 2000 hrs. Aug 14 0700 - not as foggy this morning, but skies overcast. Summary of Results: P. californicus : 2 captures. P. boylii : 6 " P. truei : 6 " Perognathus : 8 " Neotoma : 4 " Total : 26 captures
