RUBBIE, DO. 1987 Journal 27 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Aug. 5. Arrived at Hastings around 1900hrs and immediately began setting traps on RC-1. It's clear, calm, and warm (80s). Found 2 dead P. californicus (#1911; [illegible]) in traps at 2 different stations. I don't think they were left in traps, or that the traps were left open. I think they forced their way into the traps. Whatever, it should leave the traps open at the closed end or apart when did not trapping. We finished setting traps by 2000hrs (M. Salveroni showed up 15 min after I started setting traps) 2300hrs - out checking traps on RC-1. It's clear, warm (70s), the moon is > ½ full and in the southern horizon (not visible from land) 2345hrs - Caught # 835, F, lactating, and Marcos put a radio-collar on her. Dusted the collar with green powder. Aug 6. Finished checking traps by 0015hrs 0610 - clear, calm, 60s. Backing checking traps on RC-1. It's just light enough to see. Summary of Results this AM: P. californicus : 4 captures P. boylii : 9 " N. fusipes : 3 " Perognathus : 3 " S. brewbregi : 1 " Total 20 captures We radio-tracked F # 835 and found her nest at the base of the Moshone at station 9, 7! See species acct. From 1500 to 1830hrs, Marco & I set out 14 new stations on Grid RC-1 (stations 9,18 - 4,18 ; 4,18 - 4-12; 6, 8, & 5,8)- We had to do a lot of trail cutting, so things were slow. Today was warm (upper 80s), clear, with a slight breeze. We reset traps from 1830 to 1915hrs - all stations set
