RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 24 Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. July 20 (cont.) 2300hrs - out on RC-1 checking traps. It's overcast, calm, low 60's. July 21 0000hrs - finished checking traps on RC-1. Skies are clear now. Not many captures this occasion. 10-15 traps closed with no animal. Spotted 2 N. fuscipes on their(?) house at station B,13; couldn't see if they were tagged. 0410hr - back on RC-1 to check traps It's clear, calm, cool (mid 50s) The moon (<1/4 full) is rising in the eastern sky at 10 o'clock in sky. 0500hr - redusked # 835 & w/ GREEN @ 7,9. She escaped to the east; disappeared under the fallen tree by station 7,10; I think I saw a new green trail by station 6,11 that went across the stream. I did find some green powder on the south side of the stream by station 6,10. Finished checking traps at 0535hrs. It begins to get light at 0515, so this was close timing for the darkness. A few low clouds have moved in since it started getting light. Results from Transect VIII: 282 - N. fuscipes 283 - " N 291 1921 P.californicus ?, early mature, IMP, nullip. 360g. N 292 1922 " " ?, subadult, TND. 36g (watched it cross stream by jumping across rocks). N 296 010 P.beylli ?, lactating, parturk. 24g 298 - N. fuscipes 297 - Perognathus slightly torpid, released untagged. ?, mature. N 299 020 P.beylli ?, mature, scrotal. 25g N 300 030 " " ?, " , IMP, parous. 24g Summary of CAPTURE RESULTS on RC-1 (morning): P.californicus 7 captures (2 new) P.beylli 6 " N. fuscipes 1 " ? maniculatus 1 " Perognathus 5 " TOTAL 20 captures This afternoon it was cool (low 60s), breezy, and partly cloudy. Large cumulus clouds moved in from the west, but cleared around 1800hrs.
