RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 451 Lourdes Thetings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif July 13 (c/oat) This morning I set up the behavior box at the old homestead next to Mark & shortej's place. The box is as follows. 35" 17 1/4" 17 1/4" 23 1/2" 18" plexiglass front - 5 1/2" high removable divider w/ 1/4" mesh window at top (4 1/4" x 15 1/8") inside each side: 3x3x6" box w/no ends H2O Bottle 4 1/2x5x5 1/2 box w/no ends. - Floor covered with layer of litter (grass, leaves, soil) mounted divider The box is elevated 10" off porch level for observation purposes. The box is made of 3/8" plywood, except for plexiglass front and 2 1/4" mesh hardware cloth screens at top (13 1/2" x 20 1/2") The porch is at least 10-15 F cooler than out in the sun. I spent most of the afternoon picking up non-folding Sherman's from P. Kelly's mound Neotoma middens. Picked up total of 89. 1700hrs - next traps at 2nd crossing and set 10 more at the 1st crossing. 1750- began resetting traps on MC-1, haplinesa-1 & A-2. Set Transect A-3. Starts approx 180m from fork in Madonna Canyon & runs along NE facing slope. Set 2 traps/station, 10-15m spacing, trap # 321-340. This is actually off Hastings property on the Trega (?) ranch. Finished by 1930 hrs July 14. 0615hrs - on MC-1 checking traps. Weather conditions same as previous days. Moon is max < 3/4 full.
