Bibble, DO. 1987 Journal (12) Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. June 6 (cont) 0600hr - back on RC-1 checking trap. Calm, low fog, few scattered thin clouds. Finished RC-1 by 0730hr. Trapline west of MC-1 - NO capture! Trapline east of MC-1 - St #5 (top of slope) - #775 N.fuscipes #1 New #1093. P.californicus 29g, O.subadult, TALD. I finished checking traps around 0930. I dusted #1040 with orange to take pictures for STM talk. Collected all traps and loaded them up. Disappointing results on this grid. The afternoon has been warm (mid 80s) and windy. Few storm clouds were off to the east most of the day. 0400hr - walked to grid #RC-1 to check out potential trapping sites. Due S from the road to Mark and Shorty's place has potential - need to check it out. #0300 Reset traps on RC-1 from 1700 to 1800hr. Found M.californicus dead in trap at station (Cat #7167). June 7 0550hr - out on RC-1 to check traps. It's cool (high 50s), calm, with clear skies. Finished checking traps at 0930hr. Many (25-35) traps closed with no animal. Packed up truck and headed back to Berkeley! July 11 Arrived at Hastings around 1400h (Pacific Daylight-Savings Time). Will be here until the 23rd of July to monitor MC-1 & RC-1, set up a new grid, build an enclosure for behavioral observations, and measure distances for drift fence. It is clear, breezy (25 to 10mph from west), and warm (upper 80s). Began setting traps on MC-1 at 1130hrs. Finished setting traps 1800hrs. Conditions are very dry! It looks like September conditions of last year - the buckeyes are brown, no green undergrowth at all.
