RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 05 Hastings Reservation, Mendocino Co., Calif. Dec 20 (cont) Reset RC drift lines. Transect east of RC, RC quad traps, and MC drift lines from 1630 to 1730 hrs. Found a young Mlicotus dead in a pitfall can on RC drift fence that had been scavenged by beetles (Lot No. 914). Apparently it fell in sometime today. 2140hrs - out checking traps on RC. It's clear, calm, and cold. I will pick-up and be close all traps I check tonight. Results on transect east of RC: Z79 Outfit V. fuscipes 1mm. Z78 1140 F. californicus RECAP *Covered with ORANGE powder. Mouth, head, ears, red trail, belly. Z70 Outfit V. fuscipes Mature. Z71 0320 Mlicotus RECAP Results on L9120 5,14 F34 F. californicus RECAP * Covered with RED powder (all over). (Clocked the base of the tree entrance south of 5,13 when #1079 was radio-tracked, and there were grains of Red Powder on blades of glass at the entrance) Finished by 22:10 hrs and headed home. Dec 21 0700hrs - out checking drift fences on FC and RC. It's clear, calm, temp in upper 30's. Finished checking all traps by 0900hrs. I cleaned out all drift fence traps as I checked them, leaving them dismantled with drift fence passageways left open. Returned to Lab to prepare Soree mortality and pack up for Christmas Break. Left Hastings for Berkeley around noon.
