Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Dec 10 (sat), I set traps on RC-MC drift fences from 1415 to 1500hrs, and Grid WZ from 1515 to 1600hrs. I set traps a bit e earlier to day because I wanted to look for a lost Pisola scale (which turned up in my truck). Found F-concolor trucks on grid WZ around station 10,5. I also brought home a tiny Microtus that was on its back in the bottom of a pit can on the east drift fence of RC. It only weighs 10g and was barely alive when found. This afternoon was mostly clear, with some clouds moving in around sunset. 2200hrs - out checking traps on WZ. It's calm, cloudy, very dark. did be picking up traps as I check the grid. The fog rolled in shortly after I started. Caught # 458 (scared) at station 15,12 covered with RED powder (from # 1957). I don't have blood from him, so I'll take him back to blood tonight and release him tomorrow am. Finished checking traps by 2345hrs and headed back to lab. Dec 11. 0700hrs - out checking traps on drift fences. It's overcast and foggy. Woke caught P.maniculatus on MC drift fence (mortality) - all 4 rooms said caught in Closed all traps on drift fences and left them blocking the passage ways - Also covered all pit cans. Finished checking traps by 0830 and returned to prepare Sorel mortality Left for Berkeley at 1030 hrs. Dec 15 Arrived back at Hastings around 1300hrs. It's cloudy, raining, windy, and cold (405). According to Connie Adams, the past few nights have dropped down in the 20's. If this weather continues, it could snow.
