RUBBIE, DO 1987 Journal 78 Hastings Reservation, Monkey Co., Calif. Dec 9 (Mon) All were released in good shape. Returned to lab by 1030hrs to spin blood and stuff. Sorex garmy collected on drift fence. Summary of trap results: P. californicus : 5 captures (4 new) P. boylii : 3 captures (2 new) P. hueyi : 3 " (3 ") Perognathus : 5 " (2 ") N. fuscipes : 2 " (2 ") TOTAL 18 captures Sunshine lasted until noon when clouds moved in from the west. I reset traps on Grid WR from 1515 to 1600hrs, and the Drift fences from 1615 to 1700hrs. Skies remained overcast this afternoon with brief periods of drizzle. 2130hrs - out checking traps on Grid WR. Skies are mostly overcast and ground is very wet. Moments after I started it began to drizzle, shortly thereafter I saw a Lynx rufus on the bank above station 16-14. It wasn't startled by my presence and spent 10min grooming until I moved on. Finished checking traps by 2330 hrs, and returned to lab to spin blood from 3 Perognathus collected tonight. Dec 10 0700hrs - out checking traps. It's clear, cool (upper 40s), and very damp. Caught a new P. californicus on #2 drift fence. Not many captures on Grid WR this am. Summer finished checking all traps by 0900hrs. Returned to lab to bleed animals. Summary of results on Grid WR: P. californicus B'9 (Pm) 10(Am) # individuals 0 captures (3 new) 3 capt (1 new) 7 Perognathus 4 " 2 " 5 N. fuscipes 3 " (1 new) 1 " (new) 4 P. hueyi 1 " 1 " 1 P. boylii 0 0 0 TOTAL 14 7 17 Obviously, most animals are active prior to merige.
