KIBBLE, D.O. 1987 JOURNAL File Hastings Reservation, Mendocino Co., Calif. Dec 3(24) 2130hrs - out checking traps on RC. It's mostly clear, the moon is almost full - very bright. Marco & I both need to get back to Berkeley early tomorrow, so we are going to pick up all the traps on RC tonight. We will check the drift fences as usual tomorrow am. Finished checking & picking up traps on RC by 2230hrs. Summary of Results: R.californicus: 4 captures R.bogfii : 9 " Microtus : 3 " Perognathus : 3 " Neotoma : 3 " TOTAL : 22 captures Proceeded to check grid traps on MC & caught #19439 with very badly chewed radio-collar (see appendix). Returned home by 2300hrs Dec 4 0700hrs - out checking drift fences. It is overcast and threatening to rain. We finished checking traps by 0800hrs. All pit cans were covered and traps were left blocking passageways in drift fences. Returned to lab to shift some mortality. Left Hastings for Berkeley around 1800hrs in a hoarsey drizzle. Dec 7 Arrived back down at Hastings around 1430hrs. It was clear & calm, upper 60's. It obviously rained hard over the weekend and the ground is very soft. I set out for Madron Canyon around 1500hrs and came across 2 Lynx Rufus in front of the cabin: Got within 3 m of as the smaller, younger of the two - fantastic. Finished setting MC drift fences at 1600hs & RC drift fences by 1700hrs.
