ZIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 73 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Dec 1 (cont). 2140hrs - out checking traps on RC. It's mostly clear, 50's, moon is 3/4 full and very bright . Finished by 2230hrs - not much activity, probably due to moon. We next checked grid traps on MC, but see no P. californicus were captured. Returns home by 2300hrs Dec 2 0700hrs - out checking traps on MC. It's clear (with clouds to west), calm, low 50's. Nothing caught (eg 14/1 or 14/43) on MC grid traps. There were very few captures on grid and RC this am. Finished checking traps by 0830hrs and we proceeded to West Ravine to work on the grid (WR). We finished staking out a total of 162 stations by noon (see map on next page of grid) Summary of trapping results on grid RC: P. californicus 1 (am) 2 (am) # individuals 2 captures 2 captures 3 P. boylii 2 " 6 " 7 Microtus 2 " 3 " 4 Peromyscus 2 " 2 " 2 P. maniculatus 1 " 0 1 N. fuscipes 0 1 (new animal) 1 TOTAL 9 captures 14 captures 18 captures. This was the lowest number of captures this week, presumably due to the very bright moon. The afternoon was partly cloudy, temp in low 70's. We reset all traps on grid RC & RC drift fences from 1545 to 1630 hrs. An immature Neotoma was caught at 7.12 and released untagged. see map for radio-location of #1079. The drift fences on MC & top 2 rows on the grid were reset around 1700hrs.
