RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 (4) burnal Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. March 27/(cont) 2125h - Out checking traps on MC-1. It's clear, slight breezy (~5mph), and cool (upper 40's) 2140h - Redusted # 1022 w/ Rod. - I followed it to its escape site ~7m due west of station - Site consists of rocks (~12in diameter) lodged into base of buckeye. Entrance clearly marked with powder, and littered with acorn shells and buckeyes. 220h - Dust # 796, ?-lactating, with Green. Followed her trail up to a hole beneath a moss-covered rock (1/2'diameter). I worked it with a step from my hankerchief. It's ~4m south of 10,10. 2230 - followed # 1934 green-trail to old Northeaston midden. But above station 9,12. Marked it with strip of hankerchief. 2259h - Redusted 1934 at 8,13. Racoon (Procyon lotor) Spotted Great-Horned Owl in live-oak above 8,14 - large, orangish eye-shine. I attempted to chase it off by throwing several rocks at it, but it didn't seem very alarmed. Finished checking traps at 2320hrs 2340hrs - on RC-1 checking traps. March 28 Finished checking traps on RC-1 at 0100h. Hi: 72 10: 34 0630h - checking traps on RC-1. It's clear, calm, temp low 40's.
