RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 59 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Nov 5 (Sat). Spent the rest of the morning with the mammalogy class. The sun warmed things up fast this am. Melanie left this afternoon, as did the mammalogy class. From 1500 to 1600 hrs I reset traps on RC-1 drift fences plus 40 extra traps (2 traps per) as follows: 5 stations on either side of the creek west of the grid and east of the drift fence [traps #171-180 on north side of stream; #'s161-170 on south, low # starts ~10m from drift fence]; and 5 stations on the 3 north (2 traps per) side of the creek east of the grid and west of the drift fence (#'s 341-350). Finally, I set 5 stations (2 traps per) up the steep side canyon which intersects Robertson Creek ~10m downstream from the east drift fence. This canyon consists mostly of madrone and Bay trees with little shrub-level cover. Reset drift fences on MC-1 around 4630hrs. 2100 hrs - out checking traps on RC-1. It's clear, calm, & cold.
