Dibble, D.O. 1987 5/8 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Nov. 12 0700hrs - put checking traps on MC-1. It's calm, clear, and cool (low SOs). Redusted #1943 with RED powder at 9, 12. (Lwt = 44.5g, lactating) She escaped to an old Destoma midden 4m west of trap station. Finished checking traps by 0900hrs. Toad #1975 (new P. californicus) back to lab to collect tissues. Summary of capture results. P. californicus 12(am) 2 captures 11(pm) 2 captures # individuals P. boylii 7 "(2 new) 0 7 * P. truei #2" (new) 3# 1(new) 4 Perognathus 3" 2 6 N. fuscipes 1" 0 1 TOTAL 17 5 21 The immature P. truei that I have been catching are all similar in size and identification is somewhat tenuous. They are definitely not P. boylii, but they could be P. californicus. This applies to #'s 0430 through 0120. I should make complete measurements on those & compare to know P. californicus. It will also be apparent when they are a few weeks older - P. truei will start molting into adult pelage sooner. In the afternoon I finished painting the drift fence east of MC-1 and panned up to W-9 on the west fence. Reset MC-1 traps from 1500 to 1600hrs and reset DC-1 drift lines around 1630h. Released #1975 and she went down the fence toward the creek, eventually heading east under the clump of young madrones east of E-2. Today was mostly clear & warm (78o). Around noons low clouds moved up the valley but never got past Hastings.
