RISBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 54 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif Nov.11 0050hrs - I spent the evening in town this evening with an old friend (L Atwood) and didn't get back till late. Due to the late hour ain going to only check traps for #1943 F. It's clear, calm, moon is >1/2 full. Caught #1941F at 9,13 - 160 pounds on legs, face, etc. Caught #1942 N.fuscipes at 10,12. Checked all traps around station 9,13 and headed home at 0100hrs. 0700 hrs - out checking traps on MC-1. It's clear, calm, cool (temp 40?). Caught a N. fuscipes by tail at W-9 (MC-1). It drag the trap 2.5m to the west, so I presume it was caught going in. I released (hopefully it will go to its nest) it back out since it was in poor shape. The tail sheath & tail were intact, but tawny. Caught #1943 at 9,12 (52g). She escaped into the old Netoma mullen about(s) the station. Finished checking traps by 0900hrs. Returned #1971 to lab to collect blood & tissues. Summary of Results: P.californicus : 3 captures P.beylII : 3 " (2 new) P. tenui : 4 " (2 new) Peocgnatus : 4 " (1 new) N.fuscipes : 2 " (1 new) TOTAL : 16 Captures. Spent the afternoon talking to one of the manager candidates and washing clothes. Reset all traps from 1530 to 1700hrs Today was clear, calm, and very warm (low 80's). @2130hrs - out to check traps on MC-1. Ain only going to check rows 9 & 10; principally to check for F#1943. The moon is not out yet. Finished checking traps by 2230 hrs and headed home.
