RIBBLE, D.O. 1987 Journal 51 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif Nov. 6 (cont) Summary of Results: P. californicus : 5 captures P. boylii : 13 captures (2 new, 1 dead) Perognathus : 7 " R. megotis : 4 " (new) Scapanus : 1 " Microtus : 2 " (new) S. howardugii : 2 " (1 dead) TOTAL : 34 captures. Reset traps on RC-1 from 1430 to 1600 hrs - had to clean out several traps. Finished resetting MC-1 by 1700hrs. Today was overcast, but a slight breeze dried things out somewhat. This evening was clear, cool (40's), with a very bright moon. Nov 7 0600hrs - out checking traps. It's cool (40's) and mostly clear. Finished checking traps by 0900hrs. It's clear & sunny! Summary of RC-1 Results: P. californicus : 7 captures P. boylii : 6 captures Perognathus : 8 " R. megotis : 5 " N. fuscipes : 1 " S. latimanus : 1 " (killed-on drift fence) S. howardugii : 3 " (1 mortality Microtus : 3 " TOTAL : 34 captures. Returned to lab to stuff Sorey's Scapanus. Spent part of the day restocking the firewood supply at the cabin. Today was warm & sunny. The grass is really greening up - great to sight to see with trees losing their leaves at the same time. Reset traps on RC-1 from 1330 to 1600 hrs. Reset traps on MC-1 around 1630 hrs. I also set out cans on MC-1 drift lines to sink tomorrow. I need 5 more cans to complete the east fence.
