September 1853 Cape of Good Hope did also some of the Cape Pigeons. The albatross appears frequently in the Bay and is used as food by the fishermen there as food, but the Cape pigeon never approaches the land here except when following some vessel, or leaving which it immediately seeks again the open ocean. When in the middle of False Bay a pilot came off to us and took us into Simon's Bay, where we anchored at 7 o'clock in the evening. We found the "John T. Kennedy" awaiting us here having arrived 4 days before us. None of the rest of the Squadron had been heard of.
