In the clefts of the rocks were nu- merous Echinometra (!?) of a large black spined species. On the rocks just below low water mark the Echinoderms were quite numer- ous, examples of two genera of starfishes and two of Echini be- ing easily obtained. The fishermen also obtained for me a Sepia (the eggs of which were also found) and an Octopus, the latter how- ever in too poor a state of preserv- ation to be useful in our collection. By dredging on the sands in 10 y. near the shore I obtained an Aphrodita, an Ophiolepis, and sev- eral Crabs, among which the genera Leptopodia, Calappa, and Cryptopodia were represented.
