supper time a gale came suddenly out of the wind
& detained the visitors: we spent the evening singing & playing
wind kites & other catchables every little while, but got used to
considerable Gale breaks & then cold winds. These experiences
are just like the dogs, always hungry.

NE gale, drifting snow - 25°
The storm kept us indoors all day; I went out for a few
minutes this afternoon & explored around the house but the wind was
unbearable. To pass the time I made a large batch of doughnuts.
The house is rather cold & the wind seems to be coming in under
the rock wall at our backs.

Today my life at the Joy forever came
to an end. I am quite sad when I realize that
I shall have no more of these quiet evenings with
nothing but my books and the wind for company,
I should say, with its peaceful comfort of two lives
and not a single thing to disturb.
