Wednesday December 16, 19'4.
Clear with NE wind. Damp - 15°
Not 'brute and fair' but darker in all - and cold
in the wind outside. It snows the glow in the earth was very
faint - in fact it will not revive for a month.
I had the presumption to tackle that snow house once
more. I was almost ready to put the first blocks in when I
zig up and lifted about half the roof off. This made a good re-fin
ing for conversation and I talked to myself about myself until I be-
came ashamed of myself and felt that my waking self should set
about going to work again. This time I got the damn thing (the
house, I mean) finished x I was so surprised that I sat down
inside and looked at it for awhile x Then I ran back to the shack
and made poor Tromme come out and look. I felt that I must have
a witness x He almost froze but revived after a good dose of
caribou stick my rice. Then he said he thought the igloo very fine.
I must start another igloo or I shall have nothing to
write in my Diary. (I believe I made that interesting remark
yesterday.)
We have had no visitors this week. I suppose
the men at the house have not walked much in this
darkness.
We bank our fire every night nowadays. Very little
coal burns and the morning jobs come much more easily.
The house gets pretty cold but I sleep stripped and
am very comfortable x
Since I have nothing more to say I will say it:
