Saturday December 18, 1914.
Clear with moderate NE winds -10° to -20°
The house was very cold last night x I got up & started a fire this morning and nearly froze to death - by far bodily speaking of course for it was quite able to get away with a calor-oal breakfast shortly afterward.
Ternus My wife is practicing wireless when F.B. and Joe appeared. I returned to Etah with them in order to give a stocking to Abbie for Anchorage x He will see her day after tomorrow at Ogloodchaannee for which place he was Obliging with a note tomorrow. Anchorage is going to make two pairs of mitts from her. She is a good driver and very cheerful company. Last year she worked for us but towards the end of her visit got a very bad but convenient stomach ache, which prevented her from doing more x
Inalas is serving on F.B.'s sleeping bag. She is an amusing old thing and always reminds me of one of those reddish brown bananas x She has just that color and her figure is as banana-like as it can be x She has an almost terrifying look even when she smiles and at regular intervals cuts up high jinx in her attacks of pithiness. The children are all afraid of her and usually hide when she commences to chant her wild appeals to the devil and the walrus x
After supper we had another spell of wireless. I am hankering for a good book to read. Somehow or other I have no appetite for psychology or evolution or explorers tonight.
