Joy ---
Mae's 40th Birthday.
Tuesday November 10-1914 -10 deg.
A beautiful day except that we had a sw gale blowing, and drifting snow, and low black clouds.
Jerome has hit upon a new system. He has not taken me into his confidence concerning the particular advantages of it but I'm most sure my positive voice demands a rising hour somewhere in the early morning - last night I was scarcely well started on an automobile tour thru -the Berkshires when I came to with a startling sense that someone was studying at our table. The 'system' was on.
My new 'system' is improving a little x I am now practicing a bit every day at the landing tray; and I have added psychology to my p.g. course in general science - Mae's birthday came about with this date. I believe that he is 40 years old. On Sunday it claimed that he was 40 but that statement was assailed and annihilated by some of his disputative companions.
While we were sitting at supper (or dinner) we heard dogs outside; Sammy and Jinnie entered with a whole box-full of good things - Mae's contribution to our appreciation of the day. We had a white fruit cake, candy, honey, syrup, ginger ale, soda, chopped beef, - and four fine cigars x (I believe that Jerome really admired my abstinence from tobacco when he saw the cigars.) I had almost forgotten that such things existed.
The wind is howling tonight and the 'Joy Forever' is snuggling down under the snow.
