FOURIER 179 Saturday November 1-19 '4. The howling, raging, blustering blizzard continues to howl and rage and bluster -- with great gusto ! Much to our surprise Pac and Tony appeared this morning out of the wind and drift looking more like a pair of animated snow piles than intrepid explorers. We warmed and dried them around our stove until they were willing to accompany us on our own way towards -- what -- hell I say of that delicious dinner -- That very kindly offered to take Tony's cook day as he felt better fitted to prepare something that would fill the yawning caverns inside Jason and me. I must not omit in this record (which like other records will merely serve a more important purpose than collecting dust on some dismal book shelf) that the worthy surgeon also sent us a large juicy ham which he had treated according to its own culinary style, the White House Cook Book. Indeed this is a genuine flow of pleasure that fills me when I realize that at least someone, and perhaps all of them would if they could think of a way, has not reached the depths of my own present gloom in which the dark is so impenetrable that the good of others can be found in no other way except the most persistent groping. I have yet to decide whether at such times I have an artistic temperament or am just a plain simple damn fool -- All of which is very proper to write in as much as it will in no way hinder this book from its future dust collecting.
