-- FOREVER 177 Friday October 30 -1914 Behold! A S.W. Gale! with snow - I went out this morning and was promptly lashed across my front with an awful blast straight out of Cepkin's Bayx The snow was drifting and managed to cleft into our porch shed thru way crack + chancy. We are built to withstand N.E. weather and winds from the other quarter catches us on our west side x However we know from experience that such winds are not a great direction x I found that my crack in the rocks was not a shelter against this wind x I found a short shelter along ths in front which was fairly protected and went about 2 1/2 hrs plodding up and down in the swirled ating gusts that came down over the hill. This morning is poor - say minimally five, I mean to say - because my hands are cold x I have just looked at the thermometer by my side + it reads 20° above zero! This makes the ink is frozen. We have commenced to take temperature at regular times in order that they may agree with them gotten at the home. Dade brought the Thermometer out this afternoon. He also made himself a welcome guest by producing two boxes of nice pork meat which had he cooked for us. Dade had a hard struggle getting out, he could not find his way easily thru the dark + drifting snow x.
