FOREVER. 161 Wednesday, October 4 - 1917 Hard still it blows! (Fifteenth round) Today was not very important from any point I read x yes it was too: last night there was no ice in the wind x this morning there was a continuous news shut from Estak to our island x. It really looks as tho we might be able to get in much earlier than it would have been possible last year. I took my two walks as usual and wrote letters at other times x Time is going very quickly x This is really aston-ishing reminding the fact that we have no diversions, and from conversation has reached a very low ebb - We are using a little more than a bag & a day. At that rate one will be ready to leave here be- fore the first of December. Today was flour days i.e. we have apportioned our flour to come just perfectly enough so that it will last until January but we have planned to make one other diversion last a longer time. We have a list of every kind of food at the house and check off each day's ex-penditure. A clarity befell us today in the loss of our dish pan. We have nothing else in which to make bread. Except for the howling of the wind this is the most funereal atmosphere in which I have ever lived x
